Evening Reward

 y friend is a hunter
At sunset he rises
He rides through the meadows
His pride is the sword

My path is the measure
By which we will visit
In peace I approach him
We speak on the Lord

My time with the master
Is sweetened by children
At play in the twilight
Their evening reward

Before we are parted
By woodlands encroaching
His breastplate is jeweled by
A jet that has soared

O wondrous Orion
What treasured surprises
Asleep in the heavens
Where stardreams are stored

Conceived during an evening walk, this poem was later set to music, and finally incorporated as the fourth movement of Fairy Knowe Suite
